Open Physical Intelligence Layer

Physical Intelligence: trusted AI that acts in the real world

AI’s next stage is not only generating content. It is perceiving real environments, making decisions and carrying out actions. The Open Physical Intelligence Layer is how DNY extends trusted, open AI infrastructure into the physical economy.

What It Is

A connection layer, not a single product

The Physical Intelligence Layer is not a drone company and not a single robotics project. It is the unified connection layer through which DNY’s Trusted & Open AI Infrastructure reaches the real world.

It links AI models, agents, data governance, identity, security and audit with real devices — and keeps everything multi-model, multi-cloud and multi-vendor so customers are never locked into a single supplier.

Why It Matters

When AI can act, trust has to be provable

  • Devices generate the data that physical-economy decisions depend on.
  • Agents increasingly trigger real actions — a flight, a pick, a stop.
  • Every device behaviour, data source, AI judgement and key operation can enter the trusted data and audit system.
  • Vendor neutrality lets the best global hardware connect through standard interfaces.
Architecture

From device to verified outcome

Every physical intelligence workflow follows the same governed path. Each hop is identity-bound and logged.

Perceive → Understand → Decide → Act → Verify

Perceive

Sensors, vision and drones capture the physical environment.

Sensors · Vision · Drones

Understand

Models interpret signals against trusted, versioned data.

Models · Data

Decide

AI agents plan the next action within defined permissions.

AI Agents

Act

Robots, drones and devices execute the task.

Robots · Drones · Devices

Verify

Identity, permissions, logs and audit confirm what happened.

Sub-layers

Four directions, one layer

The first devices on the layer are commercial drones, embodied robots, warehouse robots, edge devices, vision systems and autonomous systems.

Industrial Intelligence

Warehousing, automation and digital twins

Warehouse robots, automation, computer vision and digital twins integrated with WMS, ERP and sensor data — moving from pilots with defined KPIs to autonomous operations.

Open Hardware Integration

Global devices, standard interfaces

Advanced devices from global manufacturers connect through standard APIs, SDKs and adapters. Hardware is selected on technical maturity, Australian compliance, support and commercial sustainability — never locked to one vendor or country of origin.

Trust & Safety

Identity, permission, logging and human escalation

Physical actions carry physical consequences. Every device, model and agent operates under a verified identity and explicit permissions; key decisions are logged; humans stay in the loop where full autonomy is inappropriate; anomalies escalate to people; and operations follow applicable Australian regulation.

  1. 1

    Data provenance

Where data came from, when, which version, and under what licence.

  2. 2

    Identity

Which person, agent, model or device is acting — verified, not assumed.

  3. 3

    Permission

What that identity is authorised to read, decide or execute.

  4. 4

    Audit

A tamper-evident record of inputs, decisions, actions and outcomes.

Every data input, model call, agent decision and device action is checked against provenance, identity and permission, and written to an audit record.
Industrial Deployment Environment

AILH — where the layer meets the physical economy at scale

AILH is a proposed large-scale industrial deployment environment and an important proof point: a practical setting for connecting open, interoperable AI with physical infrastructure, automation, robotics and supply-chain operations.

AILH is one deployment environment for the Physical Intelligence Layer — it does not define Physical AI at DNY, which spans drones, robotics, edge systems and autonomous operations across many sites.

Separate legal & economic interests

AILH and DNY remain separate legal and economic interests unless specifically agreed otherwise. Any engagement is documented through project agreements covering scope, fees, data access, IP, confidentiality, liability, service levels and commercialisation rights. Describing AILH as a deployment environment does not imply DNY ownership or control.

  1. Process mapping — high-cost, high-friction or high-risk workflows
  2. Data & systems assessment — WMS, ERP, automation, sensors, robotics
  3. Use-case prioritisation — value, feasibility, safety, integration
  4. Sandbox & pilot — measurable KPIs
  5. Production hardening & scale — security, monitoring, governance

FAQ

Physical Intelligence — common questions

What is Physical AI?

Physical AI is artificial intelligence that perceives the real world through sensors, reasons about it, and acts through machines such as drones, robots and industrial equipment.

What is the Open Physical Intelligence Layer?

It is DNY’s unified connection layer between trusted AI infrastructure and real devices. It links models, agents, data governance, identity, security and audit with drones, robots, edge devices and vision systems, while staying compatible with multiple model, cloud and hardware vendors.

Is DNY a drone company or a robotics company?

Neither on its own. Drones and robotics are directions within the Physical Intelligence Layer. Specific drone and robotics businesses, such as DNY Aerial Systems and DNY Robotic Systems, are separate ventures that reuse the group’s infrastructure.

How are physical AI actions kept safe and accountable?

Every device, model and agent is bound to an identity and a set of permissions. Key decisions and actions are logged for audit, humans stay in the loop where full autonomy is inappropriate, and anomalies escalate to people.
